Settlement Scenario Calculator™

Build a simplified property-and-debt scenario to see how different allocations can change each person's estimated net stated value.

A settlement is more than a single total. Two allocations can appear similar on paper while containing very different assets, debts, taxes, liquidity, risk, or long-term consequences. This calculator compares stated values only.

Build a Scenario

Enter the value assigned to each person. Use zero for categories that do not apply.

Home & Real Estate Equity
Cash & Bank Accounts
Retirement Assets

Stated account value only.
Investments / Brokerage
Business / Other Property
Debt Assigned
Optional Equalization Payment
Enter zero if none. The payment reduces Person A's comparison value and increases Person B's by the same amount.

Why settlement scenarios need context

A settlement can involve assets that look equal when their dollar amounts are added together but behave very differently after the divorce. This is why comparing only the bottom-line number can be misleading.

  • Cash is generally more liquid than home equity or retirement assets.
  • Retirement accounts can have different tax characteristics and access restrictions.
  • Real estate can carry mortgages, taxes, insurance, maintenance, and transaction costs.
  • Business interests may involve operating needs, liabilities, valuation questions, or limited liquidity.
  • Debt can have different interest rates, payment requirements, and creditor obligations.
  • Tax basis, future appreciation, transaction costs, and other consequences can affect actual economic value.

The purpose is not to tell you whether a settlement is fair. It is to help expose the assumptions behind a proposed division so better questions can be asked before a decision is made.

Important Educational Disclaimer

Settlement Scenario Calculator™ is an educational assumption tool only. It does not determine whether property or debt is marital, community, separate, divisible, fair, or equitable; determine legal entitlement; calculate taxes, tax basis, capital gains, penalties, future appreciation, investment performance, transaction costs, support, or court-ordered amounts; value businesses or property; prepare a settlement agreement; or predict a court outcome. Results are simplified stated-value comparisons based entirely on the information entered. Appropriate legal, financial, tax, valuation, lending, retirement-plan, or other professional review may be important before entering a settlement.
